The manufacture and sale of service uniforms of the law enforcement institutions, outside the public procurement procedures, will be punished. Individuals risk fines of up to 4,000 lei, while for legal entities the fine is twice higher. Parliament on Friday gave a first reading to a relevant draft law proposed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, IPN reports.

According to the bill, economic agents will be able to carry out the mentioned activity only under a public procurement contract, at the request of the authorities responsible for defense, national security, public order and the penitentiary administration system.

Exceptions will be the cases in which the manufacture or sale of the service dress uniform or distinctive insignia is carried out at the request of the SIS officer and, as the case may be, at the written request of the Security and Intelligence Service.

Otherwise, individuals will pay a fine of 1,000 to 4,000 lei, and persons with positions of responsibility will be punished with a fine of 4,500 to 7,500 lei. Legal entities will be fined 5,500 to 8,000 lei and will be banned from carrying out their activity for a period of up to five months.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the bill aims to prevent the abusive use of service uniforms and distinctive insignia of civil servants with special status within the institution.
