The persons who purchase health insurance individually and pay an insurance premium in fixed amount after March 31 will not wait for seven days to be granted the status of insured person. Minister of Health Ala Nemerenco proposed amending the legal framework so that each citizen, when they become tax payers, could immediately benefit from the medical services included in the common mandatory health insurance program, IPN reports.

According to the minister, it is known that in the case of persons who buy insurance individually and pay the fixed amount after May 31, the status of insured person is granted in only seven days of the payment of the insurance and the related penalties. If these persons are accepted into the mandatory health insurance system, these seven days cause damage both to the patient who is often in a critical state and does not have access to the necessary medical assistance in full amount and also to the medical institution that covers costs that are not recovered.

The insurance premium in fixed amount for 2023 is 12,636 lei. Discounts are provided until March 31. The taxpayers pay 1,014 lei to 4,056 lei, depending on the category of which they form part. After March 31, the insurance premium is paid in full amount – 12,636 lei – plus a 0.1% penalty for each day of delay.
