Members of the Civic Congress accuse the Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Dirk Schuebel of telling lies. The reaction comes after the EU Delegation issued a press release accusing the Civic Congress of slander. The statements were made in a news conference at IPN.

Civic Congress member Igor Caldare said their previous statements that the EU Delegation in Chisinau hides the appropriation of European funds intended for Moldova are truthful and can be proven by documents. He expressed his conviction that they steal mostly the European money that comes to Moldova as grants.

“We accused Dirk Schuebel not of corruption, but of covering these swindles. But the press release says that the EU Delegation may sue us for slander. Dirk Schuebel has a non-diplomatic behavior. Instead of coming before the press with documents proving his assertions, he issues official communiqués with contradictory data and calumnious statements,” said Igor Caldare.

Vladimir Volcov, director of a company that had a contract financed by the EU, told the journalists that he wrote personally to Dirk Schuebel and informed him about the violations committed in the project that he implemented, but wasn’t heard.

Ruslan Popa, a Civic Congress member, recommended the European official to listen to them and to constitute a special commission that would investigate how the money was spent within projects financed by the Europeans.

Journalist Pavel Gavrilov, who is also a member of the Congress, said that he and his colleagues have nothing against the EU or the EU Delegation to Moldova. The earlier statements were made with the aim of stopping the wrongdoings in the country and the theft of European funds.

The Civic Congress members said they reserve the right to sue Dirk Schuebel for calumny. The information about the appropriation of European funds was sent to an international organization that fights corruption in the EU.
