The Helsinki Committee for Human Rights in Moldova (HCHRM) intends to raise the national and international public awareness about and human rights and democracy violations in Moldova, if state organisations do not take into account the Committee’s proposals to reorganise the municipal radio and TV institutions, executive director of HCHRM Teo Carnat stated at a press conference on Tuesday December 19.
HCHRM suggested to stop the process of reorganising “Antena C” and “Euro TV” and to announce a moratorium for a reasonable period to solve the problem. The Committee asks to create a joint commission composed of representatives of parliamentary factions, municipal councillors, and members of the two staffs and civil society that would examine the possibilities of finding a solution to the problem.
As Carnat states, the way the two directors were dismissed, the presence of policemen at Antena C’s building, disruption of radio broadcasting on December 16, the incident related to the “bomb threat” etc. raise doubts.
According to the quoted source, HCHRM made common cause with media organisations that boycotted the annual Conference “Cooperation between Parliament and civil society”, requesting to settle this case democratically.
Media organisations, political parties and international organisations expressed their deep concern about the way the reorganisation of two media institutions is performed and latest events related to this subject.
