With the summer vacation being in full swing, the Moldovan political forces started a furious information war. The extraparliamentary opposition continues to oppose and protest for the reason that its victory in the Chisinau mayoral elections was stolen from it. In response, the ruling Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM) and its political ally the Shor Party inspired a series of anti-protest events in a move to contract the protesting élan of the opposition. This looked not enough to the PDM for discouraging the opposition and the party decided to trigger a real tornado to disclose the opposition’s relations with the Russian secret services. Thus, five MPs of the PDM “sent letters to a number of Moldovan state institutions, asking to investigate the possible activities against the Republic of Moldova by the president of the Foundation “Otwarty Dialog” (“Open Dialogue”) Ludmila Kozlowska, who has Russian and Ukrainian nationalities and who was recently expelled from Poland and the EU for having ties with the Russian secret services.”

It seems there is nothing unusual up to this moment. We already got used to the fact that the political parties in the Republic of Moldova during the past four years, after the theft of the US$ 1 billion in 2014, have been in a continuous information war. That’s why at war as at war... In general, we convinced ourselves that in the absence of subjects concerning the stolen US$ 1 billion and the laundering of Russian money, the political competition in the Republic of Moldova practically lost its purpose. What should they discuss now – the European integration? After the European Parliament adopted a resolution on July 5 this year, this seems meaningless. The Eurasian integration? After President Igor Dodon made statements about the designing of the plan for ensuring Moldova’s entry into the European Union, this also seems pointless. It seems that the geopolitical competition between the Moldovan parties came to an end.

In such circumstances, if the protesting opposition halted the discussions about the stolen US$ 1 billion, peace and quietness would be established in the country. Anyway, the people are already aware that the politicized law enforcement agencies, together with the National Bank, knew everything and monitored in detail the theft and the functioning of the money laundering machine. How long one can speak about this? What did the opposition leaders obtain instead? Accusations that they are agents of Russia that organized both the theft and the money laundering scheme. If the opposition had kept silent, it wouldn’t have been accused. If it does not keep silent, it reaps what is sowed….

This has been true ever since the world began! However, the current information war has something very intriguing. All the five Democratic MPs –Zagorodnyi Anatolie, Vremea Igor, Gorilă Anatolie, Sîrbu Sergiu and Nichiforciuc Eugeniu – are former notable members of the Party of Communists of the Republic of Moldova (PCRM), who entered politics on the Communist platform. We know that the last two were coopted from early youth and were grown in the nursery of the PCRM, advancing as young Communist politicians, with profound Eurasian convictions. This lasted until their correct reorientation, in circumstances related to the involution of the PCRM, when they joined the PDM, for a prosperous future. The first three wandered yet, entering the current Parliament on the Communist ticket, promising to the people, among others, that they would organize a referendum on the scrapping of the Association Agreement with the EU and the entry into the Eurasian Union. These defected from the PCRM to the PDM only seven hours after the return to politics of Vlad Plahotniuc was announced on December 21, 2015!

We should be yet attentive and should not anticipate eventual accusations against the five about the fact that these betrayed their principles and values. First of all, all the five left the PCRM only after the PDM signed a cooperation agreement with the party of the Russian President Vladimir Putin, United Russia, on September 16, 2010. Moreover, the principles and values of the ex-Communists were even strengthened as, in only a month of the signing of this agreement, the leader of the PDM Vlad Plahotniuc became a citizen of the Russian Federation, swearing an oath of allegiance to the new Homeland! It is not possible otherwise.

So, we can only imagine how much the five turncoats-patriots with principles and values are concerned about the fact that Russia can have agents in Moldova, others than the promoters of the ideal of the entry into the Eurasian Union, having as a leader a loyal citizen of Russia who has rebroadcast the Russian propaganda through the most sophisticated instrument – the First Channel – during over ten years (!). We have to only thank them for becoming so vigilant after they dropped the hammer and sickle, grasping firmly the thorny roses. So, the five institutions notified by the five MPs – the National Anticorruption Center, the Service for the Prevention and Combating of Money Laundering, the Security and Intelligence Service, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, and the Central Election Commission – have the important duty of attentively examining their request and of providing clear, unambiguous answers to society as to who are the real authorized agents of Moscow in the Republic of Moldova?

However, there is a fear that the mentioned institutions will act as those responsible for the theft of the US$ 1 billion and the money laundering machine in 2010-2014, when they monitored and knew everything, but didn’t intervene to stop these. This is exactly in accordance with the proverb “He who pays the piper calls the tune”.
