Growth of Moldova’s GDP - last but one in CIS

In the first 9 months of the current year the R. of Moldova registered a GDP growth of only 5%, being situated on the last but one position among the member-states of the Commonwealth of Independent States, data of the Interstate Statistical Committee of CIS show. The lowest growth was registered by Kyrgyzstan – 3.2 %. The top is led by Azerbaijan, with a GDP growth of 34%, followed by Armenia – 12.5%. According to the CIS Statistical Committee, in the given period this index was – in Belarus – of 9.6%, in Kazakhstan – 9.3%, in Georgia – 7.8 %. The average rate of the Gross Domestic Product for the CIS states, increased in the first nine months of 2006, by 6 %, compared to the same period of the last year. Experts estimate that the slowdown of the growth rhythm of GDP is related to external factors, including export restrictions for Moldovan products, as well as the increase in price of natural gases. At the end of 2005, the GDP growth of the R. of Moldova was of 7.1%.
