The Group of Socialists in Parliament will possibly put up a candidate for the post of President of Moldova if they find at least 12 lawmakers who will provide support to their candidate, MP Igor Dodon said Thursday, quoted by Info-Prim Neo.
“If we secure the support of another 12 MPs so as to be able to field an apolitical candidate, I’m sure that there will be votes, including from the PCRM. We do not rule out that this candidate may be Zinada Greceanyi,” said Igor Dodon, adding he has not yet started to look for support among the MPs.
The lawmaker reiterated that he will not vote for the ruling alliance’s candidate. According to Igor Dodon, the group of Socialists is not interested in posts or money.
If Vladimir Voronin is ready to vote in Marian Lupu as head of state, he should assume responsibility as many of the members of the PCRM do not support this candidate, said Igor Dodon.
The candidates for the presidency must confirm that they have the support of at least 15 MPs. The Group of Socialists includes three lawmakers. The deadline for applications is December 13, 7pm.
The presidential elections will take place on December 16. The President of Moldova is elected by the votes of at least 61 MPs.
