A number of members from the Communist Party's branches in Chisinau's Riscani and Buiucani districts announced they were leaving the party to join Igor Dodon, explaining they had grown discontented with the party's policy and with the fact that Mark Tkaciuk had become the power behind the throne. Vlad Batrincea, a member of the group, told a news conference on Friday that the group consisted of around 200 young people who wanted “to stop the division of society”. He added that Communist Party was losing credibility and blamed it for choosing “endless boycotts” instead of action. “We are here today to declare that we are following Igor Dodon and Zinaida Greceanyi and are joining the Socialist Party. We salute the creation of a new leftist party that will promote the socialist principles and the Eurasian integration idea”, said Vlad Batrincea. Last week, MPs Igor Dodon, Zinaida Greceanyi and Veronica Abramciuc quit the Communist Party's parliamentary faction. Igor Dodon, who was also a party member, surrendered his member card as well, announcing he would join the Socialist Party instead.
