Grigore Panfilii becomes European pankration champion second consecutive year

The national squad of Moldova won three medals at the European Pankration Championship that ended in Tbilisi on June 28. Grigore Panfilii became thus European championship the second consecutive year, after he won the championship in Bucharest in 2014, IPN reports.

In the 71 kg class, Panfilii scored three victories and managed to beat a Ukrainian athlete in the final. He hit his opponent in the leg and this was unable to continue.

Pavel Pocatilov and Dumitru Capmari didn’t manage to win a new European title. They won bronzes in the 92kg and, respectively, 77 kg classes. In Tbilisi, the team trained by Ivan Gheorghiu was also represented by Ivan Zavtoni (fifth place, 77 kg) and Adrian Ursachi (fifth place, 84 kg).
