Presidential candidate Zinaida Greceanyi says she hasn't expected that she wouldn't be elected president in today's vote. “I thought the MPs would show more common sense”, Greceanyi told reporters after the Parliament session closed today without producing a winner for the presidency. Greceanyi won 60 of the required 61 votes. The second contender – Dr. Stanislav Groppa – also nominated by the Communists Party, got zero votes. Communist leader Vladimir Voronin told reporters that Greceanyi would remain the ruling party's principal presidential nominee in the repeated vote on May 28. Voronin added that a second competitor wold be announced in a couple of days.
