At one of the following Government meetings, the Ministry of Economy and Commerce will present the draft decision on starting the construction of the passenger port at the Giurgiulesti Oil Terminal. The first passenger lane is to be put into operation in optimal terms, Info-Prim Neo reports. Igor Dodon, Minister of Economy and Commerce, assigned by the executive to coordinate these projects, told a Government sitting that the activities for designing the passenger and the cargo ports have already started. In order to ensure the access to the port, the construction of the Cahul-Giurgiulesti railroad track is in progress. The Giurgiulesti Oil Terminal is fully operational, the Government has said earlier. The petroleum products delivered by sea to Moldova via this terminal have been already placed on the market. The Ministry of Culture and Tourism, together with other Government offices, was instructed to take measures for opening tourist sea routes. The Moldovan Government signed the investment agreement for the execution of the projects in southern Moldova at the beginning of 2005. The investor pledged to complete the construction of the oil terminal with a capacity of 2 million tonnes a year in Guirgulesti, build a passenger and a cargo port in its vicinity, set up 50 filling stations, and offer 3,000 new jobs. The total volume of investment is estimated at nearly $250m.
