The state of emergency will be extended as long as there are risks related to the war in Ukraine and to the energy situation, said Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița. “The state of emergency will be lifted when there are no conditions and risks due to the war and risks related to the energy situation. I want a lot time to come for a state of emergency not to be necessary,” the official stated in the program “Reflection Points” on Vocea Basarabiei channel, IPN reports.

According to the Premier, the Government will request again Parliament to extend the state of emergency. “We continue to face risks related to the war, this regular shelling. We are anyway in a difficult situation as regards the energy as the contract we have with Gazprom is not respected. We receive a much lower amount, approximately 56% in December, of the ordinary quantity. There are yet risks that require the Government’s swift and urgent intervention,” said the official.

Natalia Gavrilița assured that this instrument is used very judiciously, when it is necessary, when there are preconditions generated by risks. As regards the fact that the opposition every time challenges the extension of the state of emergency, the Premier said that “this is the nature of democracy”.

The state of emergency in Moldova was declared on February 24, 2022, together with the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, and since then has been extended for several times, the last time on December 1, for another 60 days.
