The Cabinet requested Parliament to declare a state of emergency nationwide for a 30-day period. The decision was taken in a meeting following the convocation of the Commission on Emergencies that examined the situation on the natural gas market, IPN reports.

Constantin Borosan, secretary of state at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development, said the proposal is based on data presented in the Commission’s report. According to the daily reports of the transmission system operator “Moldovatransgaz”, the pressure in the transportation networks is critical already. “This can lead to a natural gas crisis in Moldova if particular volumes of gas are not bought in the immediate period to restore the normal regime of natural gas transportation networks,” stated the functionary.

Under the draft decision, during the state of emergency the Commission on Emergencies, as the responsible administrative authority, will issue mandatory ordinances applying to managers of central and local public authorities, business entities, public institutions and also to the citizens and foreigners who are in Moldova.

Prime Ministers Natalia Gavrilița said the declaring of the state of emergency will enable to allocate money to “Energocom” for purchasing natural gas on the international market by an instrument that will allow the authorities to amend the state budget as swiftly as possible.
