The state of emergency in the Republic of Moldova could be extended for another 60 days as from October 7. A decision to this effect was taken in the Cabinet’s meeting based on a relevant decision adopted by the Commission for Exceptional Situations and is to be submitted to Parliament for consideration, IPN reports.

According to the authorities, such a decision is necessary due to the persistent risks and threats to national security and to the provision of the Republic of Moldova with energy resources during the cold period of the year.

“The latest developments in the region influenced by the war in Ukraine continue generating weaknesses to the security of the state borders of the Republic of Moldova. Among the major threats faced by our country are the limitation or even stopping of the supply of energy resources, the exponential rise in the prices of these, the expansion of the areas affected by war towards the borders of the Republic of Moldova, the utilization of nuclear weapons with regional and global effects, the increase in the inflow of Ukrainian refugees and the consequences caused by the partial mobilization announced in the Russian Federation,” runs the decision.

The state of emergency in the Republic of Moldova was declared on February 24, 2022 together with the outbreak of the war in Ukraine. It was later extended for several times.
