The Ministry of Energy presented amendments to the Law on Natural Gas, which are to be put up for public consultations. The new amendments propose introducing a mechanism through which the Government can designate the entity that delivers natural gas to the Transnistrian region, IPN reports.

Another proposal aims to build up stocks of 15% to cover the consumption of vitally important protected consumers – household consumers and organizations providing essential social services.

The new amendments also suggest introducing single harmonized tariffs for the natural gas distribution service. Currently, distribution tariffs vary depending on the company.

It is also proposed that large industrial enterprises, which consume a large volume of natural gas, from October 1, 2025 should move exclusively to the free gas market.

The document provides for the obligation of system operators for the transmission and distribution of natural gas to have the digital map of gas networks.

Another measure is related to the introduction of a mechanism to unblock the situation regarding the gasification of localities in the country by enabling local public authorities and/or the applicant to contribute financially to the construction of interurban and intervillage networks, including in cases when financing can be obtained from development partners.

Proposals on the draft law can be submitted until March 12.
