The Liberal Democratic Party and the Party “Action and Solidarity” consider the resolution adopted by the European Parliament last week will have repercussions for the citizens of Moldova and the country’s relations with the European Union reached a very serious crisis and the blame is borne by the government. At the same time, the Democratic Party thinks the resolution is political in character and represents a serious blow given to the people by the opposition parties PAS, PPPDA and PLDM. The issue was developed in the talk show “Emphasis on today” on TVR Moldova channel, IPN reports.
Chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party Viorel Cibotaru said he was saddened by the harshness of the resolution as this seriously affects not only the government, which is responsible for the invalidation of the local elections in Chisinau, but also Moldova’s image. “Surely, there will be repercussions for the citizens and the responsibility is borne by the Democratic Party and the current government that, together with the Party of Socialists, generated these situations,” he stated. According to Viorel Cibotaru, there is concern in the EU that the situation related to the local mayoral elections will be perpetuated at the parliamentary elections.
Historian Vadim Pislariuc, who is a member of the Party “Action and Solidarity”, said that after nine years of so-called pro-European government, Moldova’s relationship with the EU reached a serious crisis, similar to that of 2009, when some of the ambassadors were expelled from the EU. The European Parliament’s resolution was adopted by an overwhelming majority of 343 votes, with 35 votes being against. ”Never in the history of the European Union and the allied states did they cross this red line called the nullification of elections. All the MEPs have voters at home. They have to explain what happened in the Republic of Moldova to them and cannot explain why, in a state that aspires to become a EU member, very important elections that were declared free and fair, including by the government, were abusively annulled by judges. During the last few years, elections in our country had also been rigged, but they never crossed this red line when the opposition won and this didn’t suit someone,” stated Vadim Pislariuc.
Deputy chairman of the Democratic Party Vladimir Cebotari said the resolution adopted by the European Parliament is political in character and represents not only a serious blow to the people, as they say, but also a blow given by particular European political families of which the PLDM, PAS and PPPDA form part. The resolution was adopted in a hurry and contains a multitude of unverified statements. “For example, it says that trust in the state institutions declined. During the past two years and a half, the current Government, after it inherited a very low level of confidence in state institutions, managed to double and even treble trust in public institutions and this fact was shown by the Public Opinion Barometer produced by the Institute for Public Policy, which is affiliated to the PAS, PPPDA and PLDM,” noted the politician.
On July 5, the European Parliament adopted a resolution by which it recommends the European Commission to suspend any foreseen payments of macro-financial assistance and budget support to Moldova. The MEPs consider any decision on the future payments should be taken only after the planned parliamentary elections and on condition that these are held in accordance with the internationally recognized standards and are assessed by specialized intentional organizations.
