Academician Gheorghe Duca was reelected as president of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova (ASM), IPN reports.
The head of the Academy’s press service Eugenia Tofan said that Gheorghe Duca gained 150 votes, while his opponent Leonid Culiuc – 51 votes. Another two candidates, Valeriu Canter and Valeriu Pasat, withdrew from the contest before the voting in favor of Leonid Culiuc.
The president of the ASM is elected for a six-year period. Gheorghe Duca has held office as ASM president two times – in 2004-2008 and in 2008-2014.
