The leader of the Party “Building Europe at Home” (PACE) Gheorghe Cavcaliu and his two party mates Valentina Geamănă and Alexandru Cîrpa, who were detained at the Sheremetyevo Airport in Moscow on July 4, returned home last night. They were met with flags of the party, flowers and applause by PACE members at the Chisinau International Airport, IPN reports.

“I’m glad that you are strong. I’m glad that you know that I was as strong every second I spent there. It is for the first time in my life that I spent time in a remand prison, even if the conditions were appropriate there. But I was strong and every second thought I will return home and we will continue the struggle for Moldova. We should not kneel before anyone. We must be strong and must not allow anyone to stamp on our efforts. This is very and very important,” Gheorghe Cavcaliuc stated on his return.

In the morning of July 4, members of the PACE said their leader Gheorghe Cavcaliuc was arrested at the Sheremetyevo Airport together with two more party mates. The three were to meet with members of the Moldovan diaspora in Russia.

In a reaction later, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration sad the three members of the Party “Building Europe at Home” intentionally didn’t obey the rules of entering the Russian Federation. According to the Ministry, one of the three Moldovan citizens, knowing that this was banned from entering Russia, went to Moscow being aware of the consequences of such a decision. The PACE members denied the Ministry’s statements.
