Germany will offer Moldova another 14 Piranha armored vehicles, in addition to the 19 already delivered. The air defense capability will also be strengthened by providing additional equipment next year. The announcement was made by the Minister of Defense of the Federal Republic of Germany Boris Pistorius, who came to Chisinau to take part in the handover of medical equipment from the German side to the National Army, IPN reports.

Boris Pistorius said that Moldova feels the effects of Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine. “Moldova is part of the European family. We see what important steps have been taken to come closer to the European Union and on the path to accession negotiations. This is only possible together, working in the field of security and defense at European Union level. We, the European Union, together with our partners, will not allow Russia to continue its destabilization attempts and we will do everything possible to counter them,” said the minister, adding that Germany will finance the purchase of 14 new Piranha vehicles, deliver logistic vehicles and air defense systems.

Moldova’s Minister of Defense Anatolie Nosatyi noted that it is for the second time that a German minister of defense pays an official visit to the Republic of Moldova during a relatively short period. This confirms that Germany continues to stand by the Republic of Moldova in the strategic desiderata of European integration, implementation of democratic reforms, but also strengthening of the defense capability, especially in the current unstable regional security situation. The received consignment intended for the National Army represents another important step in the joint efforts to modernize the institution and, in particular, to provide the staff with state-of-the-art medical equipment.

The official also said that the support of the strategic partners, including Germany, is very important as Moldova is facing a series of challenges, including in the fields of defense and security, and needs to build its resilience to cope with multiple crises. “All we want now is to have sufficient defense capabilities to be able to maintain peace and ensure a stable and prosperous security environment for the citizens of the Republic of Moldova,” stated the minister.
