Georgian president Mikheil Saakashvili announces his country is retreating from the CIS. The statement was made on Tuesday at meeting in Tbilisi's downtown, Info-Prim Neo quotes international news agencies' reports. „We have decided Georgia will leave the CIS. We call on Ukraine and other countries to leave the Community of Independent States where Russia plays a domineering role,” said Georgia's president. The CIS was created in December 1991, after the fall of the USSR and now gathers 11 former Soviet republics. Turkmenistan has the status of an associate member, while the Baltics have never been part of the CIS.
