Vladimir Besleaga has passed away. The news of the writer’s passing was confirmed by the National Museum of Romanian Literature in Chisinau, IPN reports.
"We sadly announce that today, February 25, 2025, at 16:00, writer Vladimir Besleaga has passed away. May God forgive him! Gentle light, Master Vladimir Besleaga! Our condolences to his family," stated the National Museum of Romanian Literature in Chisinau.
Vladimir Besleaga was born on July 25, 1931, in the village of Malaiesti, Grigoriopol District. His first novel, "Zbor frant" (Broken Flight) (1966), is recognized as one of the most remarkable post-war prose works and among the novels that reshaped Moldovan literature. Besleaga is particularly noted for his innovative narrative techniques, especially in the psychological novel "The Life and Death of the Unfortunate Filimon…", written in the 1960s but only published in 1988.
Vladimir Besleaga authored numerous essays, reflections, and memoirs. He was awarded the State Prize of the MSSR (1978) and was honored as People’s Writer (1991). Between 1990-1994, he served as a deputy in the first Parliament of the Republic of Moldova. In 1996, he was awarded the "Order of the Republic", which he later declined.
The manuscripts of several of his novels—including "Zbor frant", "Ignat și Ana", and "Sange pe zapada"—are preserved in the collection of the "Mihail Kogalniceanu" Museum of Romanian Literature.
