Prime Minister Pavel Filip said he asked to carry out a number of assessments to establish how the tariffs of different energy resources are determined. “We want to see if the tariffs paid by the people are correct and to what extent they reflect the reality,” the Premier said after a working meeting centering on the supply of natural gas and the delivery price of gas, IPN reports.
The official said he received the results of two assessments concerning the tariffs for gas and oil products. “Councilors’ informative notes over these assessments inspire optimism about the possibility of decreasing the tariffs,” stated Pavel Filip. According to him, full transparency is needed as regards the setting of tariffs as the people who took to the streets ask for this.
The Prime Minister noted that in the meeting he discussed with the administration of the public utility SA “Moldovagaz”. “There are a number of solutions for reducing the natural gas tariffs for end-users by 10%, but additional analyses are needed and I will discuss with officials of the National Agency for Energy Regulation so that the independence of this institution is respected. We do not intend to interfere in the activity of this institution. The tariffs can be reduced if there are reasons for doing this,” he said.
He also said that a final decision will be taken next week and the assessments will continue. “We will probably ascertain that the tariffs of some of the energy resources are correct and should be kept, while other tariffs can be decreased. Anyway, the consumers and society in general need to be correctly informed about the formation of tariffs so that they do not have the impression that some people make enormous profit by using them,” stated Pavel Filip.
