The Republic of Moldova stores in Ukraine almost half of the volume of 47 million cubic meters of natural gas that represents the security stores. Minister of Energy Victor Parlicov discussed with his Ukrainian counterpart German Galushchenko the security of these stores. According to the Ukrainian side, the gas stored by the Republic of Moldova is safe and can be accessed and extracted at any time, IPN reports.

The discussions took place in Kyiv. Victor Parlicov reiterated that the Republic of Moldova is ready for any scenario, even after the Ukraine-Russia gas transit contract expires on January 1, 2025.

“We are ready to support Ukraine with all the means that are at our disposal in the difficult situation in which the Ukrainian energy sector is now following the Russian attacks. At the same time, we are grateful to Ukraine and the Ukrainian people for their resistance in the face of Russian aggression as they thus protect peace in Moldova and the whole of Europe,” said the minister, quoted in a press release.

Ukrainian Minister of Energy German Galushchenko stressed that ensuring energy security in the region remains a priority. “The energy security of our region and the European continent in general depends primarily on our unity and determination to oppose the aggressor, especially on the energy front,” stressed the official.

The ministers also discussed cooperation in the field of electricity supply. The Republic of Moldova and Ukraine are connected as a single block to the European continental system ENTSO-E.
