Fuel prices will be again capped by the National Agency for Energy Regulation (NAER). Prime Minister Ion Chicu said the decision to restore this methodology derives from the analysis carried out by the governmental price monitoring group, IPN reports.

The official noted the legislative amendments concerning the restoration of the fuel price capping methodology will be approved by the Government in the nearest future.

Two weeks ago, the prices of gasoline and diesel fuel were increased by 0.7 lei/liter on average, whereas the price of liquefied petroleum gas by 1 leu. Recently, fuel sellers decreased the prices by 0.20-0.25 lei/liter.

Since 2016, the NAER had set the ceiling prices of gasoline and diesel fuel once in two weeks. In March 2019, the Agency approved a new fuel pricing methodology. According to this, fuel sellers set the retail prices of the main fuels and liquefied petroleum gas by themselves, within an annual markup of 10%. But they are to present the relevant calculations within three days of the day new prices are posted.
