Vendors selling fresh fruit and vegetables will be required to hold a certificate of conformity issued by the National Food Safety Agency. Previously, the requirement applied only to exporters of fresh fruit and vegetables.
The new rules have been approved by the Government in line with the standards adopted by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE).
Certificates attesting to the compliance with sanitary standards will be issued following tests performed at an accredited laboratory.
The certificate of conformity does not replace the certificate of harmlessness, yet the latter becomes optional.
