The body of the l2-year-old girl who purportedly drowned in the Nistru near Speia village of Anenii Noi district hasn’t been yet found. Frogmen of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations carry out searches for the third consecutive day.
Underwater searches were performed at a depth of 12 meters on an area of 150,000 square meters. The searches were suspended for the night, but were resumed in the morning of February 25. According to the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, the girl drowned when she was walking on ice near Speia village on February 23.
Contacted by IPN for details, press officer of the Anenii Noi Police Inspectorate Olesea Gherman said the girl asked for her mother’s permission to go for a walk through the village. There, she met with another three children close in age and they decided to go to the Nitru River to take pictures. The girl distanced herself from the bank and fell under the melting ice. The other children tried to help her, but didn’t succeed. One of the children called the 112 Service and related what happened.
