Moldovan freestyle wrestler Mihaela Samoil has become the European vice-champion in wrestling at a competition reserved for athletes under the age of 23. The Ministry of Education and Research stated that in the final of the 55 kg category, the athlete was defeated by Turkey’s Tuba Demir, IPN reports.
Before reaching the final, Mihaela Samoil secured two victories. In the quarterfinals, she defeated Hungary’s Roza Szenttamasi, and in the semifinals, she overcame Anastasia Iandușkina from the Russian Federation.
This is the third medal won by Moldovan athletes at the U-23 European Wrestling Championship, following the bronze medals earned by Ion Marcu and Eugeniu Mihălcean in the freestyle wrestling competition.
