The state-run company Moldova’s Railways on September 15 launched a campaign to promote new methods of purchasing train tickets. Thus, to make the people aware of the possibility of buying tickets online, a train ticket during the next two weeks will cost 0 and 1 leu if it is purchased online. The campaign is aimed at stimulating passengers to travel by the modernized trains.

The tickets can be purchased for any distance on the Chisinau - Ungheni and Chisinau – Ocnita routes, on which modernized trains were put, only one day before the trip.

“This is a novelty for Moldova. Until now train tickets haven’t been sold over the Internet. We do this in a move to motivate more young people to travel by train,” Moldova’s Railways director Iurie Topala has told IPN.

The campaign will last for two weeks. During the first week, a ticket booked online on www.railway.md will cost 0 lei. During the second week, the price of a ticket will be 1 leu and the payment will be made through a bank card. Afterward, the standard prices will be restored.
