The implementation of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement with the EU will have short- and long-term effects in Moldova. Economic analyst Alexandru Fala has told IPN that on a short-term, it will bring risks especially to the national agriculture. The expert believes that some of the economic entities will not cope with the grater competition that will appear in the wake of the liberalization of the market for European products. Those who will not adapt themselves may even disappear from the market.

But the agreement will have long-term beneficial effect, said Alexandru Fala. He considers that for its provisions to be successfully implemented, Moldova needs a legal framework that will enable to implement reforms.

On June 12, the negotiations on the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement with the EU were officially closed. The two sides started the technical procedures that will be followed by the initialing of the document. Moldova’s chief negotiator, Deputy Minister of Economy Octavian Calmac said there were worked out mechanisms that will help the companies to meet the European standards.
