A free economic zone between the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine could be set up in the future, the Prime Minster of Ukraine Oleksiy Honcharuk announced in a meeting with his Moldovan counterpart Ion Chicu, who is paying a visit to Kiev, IPN has learned from the Government’s press service.
Premier Honcharuk said both of the states have internal territorial disputes and the communication and experience exchange on these subjects can help strengthen security in the region.
For his part, Prime Minister Ion Chicu thanked for the invitation, saying he appreciates the progress made in ensuring communication between the governments in the recent past.
The two officials discussed the transportation of natural gas to Moldova through Ukraine after December 31, 2019, which depends on the agreements between Ukraine and Russia, and the enhancement of security in the region, including the mutual support in resolving the internal conflicts of the two states.
The two also conferred on the liberalization of road and air transport, extension of common border control at more checkpoints and the antidumping measures imposed by the Government of Ukraine on a series of products that affect the Moldovan producers.
They agreed to hold a meeting of the co-chairpersons of the Moldovan-Ukrainian intergovernmental commission for economic cooperation in the nearest future so as to encourage progress on topics of common interest.
