The Government of the Republic of Moldova has signed a framework agreement of cooperation with the Government of His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco, which is designed to develop cooperation in all the areas of mutual interest. The document was signed after the bilateral meeting of Prince Albert II of Monaco, who is in Chisinau on a visit, with Prime Minister Pavel Filip and after the broader meeting of the delegations, IPN reports.

Pavel Filip said this visit is historic and will definitely imprint new dimensions on the bilateral cooperation. “We discussed first of all the measures aimed at developing our bilateral relations given the existing vast potential – either we speak about the economic component or about the environment component or the development of cooperation in different sectors,” he stated.

Later, there was signed a memorandum of understanding between the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation and the Ministry of Environment of Moldova. On this occasion, the Foundation expressed its intention to examine possibilities of supporting particular environmental projects in Moldova to facilitate the functioning of the first national park “Orhei National Park” and to work out ten plans for conserving ten species of birds from Ramsar sites included in the Red Book. The Foundation will also offer support to rehabilitate the Botanical Garden following the late April snowfall.

Prince Albert II of Monaco said the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two states started six years ago and this visit is an occasion for giving an impetus to them. “By this visit, I wanted to meet a country and a people that enjoy a geographical position at the crossroads of two cultures – Latin and Slavic – a country that has opportunities and future and a people that, despite the turmoil of history, knew to build its destiny. I see in this a profound understanding and a burning desire to know each other better and to become involved in fruitful cooperation,” stated Prince Albert II.

Prince Albert II of Monaco, who is paying his first official visit to Moldova, will be in Chisinau on May 5 too. The official is to have a meeting with President Igor Dodon.
