The employee of a company responsible for the technical supervision of the reconstruction works at the Center of Excellence in Transport has been sentenced to four years in prison for bribery. According to the prosecutors, the bribe was extorted to facilitate the signing of the final acceptance act and amounted to 10% of the value of the additional reconstruction works, IPN reports.

The criminal case was initiated in August 2017 on the basis of a denunciation. At the time, the defendant was the advisor to the administrator of the company appointed by the Ministry of Education for the technical supervision of reconstruction works at the Center of Excellence in Transportation in Chisinau.

Between June-August 2017, the man received from the administrator of the company responsible for carrying out the reconstruction works goods and services in the amount of approximately 38 000 lei and the amount of 2000 euro in two installments. The defendant was apprehended when he was receiving the second installment of € 1000.

During the prosecution, which lasted three months, the defendant admitted the crime and entered into a plea agreement. However, during the trial, he refused to stand by his statements and asked for the case to be examined under the general procedure.

Recently, the Chisinau Court, Buiucani branch, found him guilty of committing the offense of taking bribes and sentenced him to four years in prison, to be served in a semi-closed penitentiary.

The sum of 37 219.97 lei, representing the value of the illegally obtained goods, and the equivalent of 2 000 euro as money received in the course of the special investigative measure were confiscated from the defendant's account.

The judgment may be appealed to the Chisinau Court of Appeal.
