Four persons run for head of Transnistria

Four persons submitted their applications for the office of head of Transnistria. According to Tiraspol press, the present unrecognized leader from Tiraspol Igor Smirnov runs for the position, while the present Internal minister of the region, Alexandr Korolev, comes along as candidate for the post of vice president. Nadeja Bondarenko, editor of “Pravda Pridnestrovia” newspaper, Andrei Safonov, chief editor of “Novaia gazeta” weekly, and Piotr Tomaily, MP of the so-called supreme soviet of Tiraspol, have submitted their applications as well. Each candidate has fielded a person for the position of vice president. In compliance with the Transnistrian legislation, till November 10, the candidates are to present to the central election commission the signatures in their endorsement, while the commission – to examine them within five days. The elections of Transnistria’s head will be held on December 10. The International Community declared they will not be recognized.
