Four inspectors of the National Motor Transport Agency (ANTA) were detained on suspicion that they monthly received various illegal remunerations from carriers operating in the north of the country. The money was asked for the so-called protection, ensured through superficial checks on drivers, and in order not to impose penalties for all kinds of violations. On Tuesday, the police carried out searches the case of the four employees of the Agency’s Road Transport Control Division, IPN reports.

The National Anticorruption Center said that inspectors’ actions were documented in a criminal case of passive corruption, to which 14 other files were later joined.

During the searches at suspects' homes, different currencies in cash were found. The origin of the money is to be established.

The investigations into the case continue under the procedural guidance of prosecutors of the Balti Prosecutor's Office.

In reaction, the ANTA issued a statement whereby it strongly condemns any act of corruption and reaffirms its commitment to ensure compliance with the law.
