The founding Congress of the social-political organization the “European Action Movement” (MAE) took place Sunday, October 22, in Chisinau, in which 800 delegations from the whole country participated. The chairman of MAE, Anatol Petrencu, the ex-leader of the Association of Historians, declared that the new organization aims to integrate the country into the European Union. In the speech delivered to the congress, Petrencu mentioned that “at present there is a feeling that Moldova gets off the train heading to the EU, because the Baltic countries, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia have already joined the EU and have better results than Moldova”. “We aim at mobilizing the Moldovan society in order to make it acknowledge the fact that our place is in Europe, and this includes modernizing the economy, the social field, infrastructure, education and others”, - Petrencu mentioned. But for this future achievement the efforts of the entire people is needed, because “no one will come to solve the problems of the Moldovans”, - the cited source specified. Referring to the name “movement” and not “party”, Petrencu said the “notion of party was compromised in Moldova, and it is repulsive to its population”. The leader of MAE said that “Action” – means “that there is no time for empty words and declarations, because during 15 years politicians are all talk and had done nothing for the wellbeing of the country, for its present and future; “European” – because Moldova is part of the Europe and deserves to join the European family”. In order to obtain integration, MAE says it will organize public debates regarding the adhering of the country to NATO and the EU; harmonization of the Constitution and of Moldova’s legislation with the one of the EU; amplifying negotiations about the association of Moldova to the EU and submitting the formal application for membership; strengthening political, economic and cultural ties with the EU member countries ; settling partnership relations with Community’s members; denouncing membership in the CIS and settling bilateral relations with the member countries; giving back properties or compensating the damages of the persons who were deported by the soviet regime or its successors. The next action the organization is registering at the Ministry of Justice. At present the movement has about 6 thousand members.
