The judges of the Chisinau Appeals Court fully accepted the anticorruption prosecutors’ request to remand the former director of the Security and Intelligence Service (SIS) Vasile Botnari in custody for a period of 30 days. He will be held in Penitentiary No. 13 in Chisinau. Earlier, the ex-SIS director was placed under house arrest for 30 days, IPN reports.

Vasile Botnari is accused of purchasing tangible and intangible assets through the agency of other persons and of registering these in the name of relatives or right-hand persons in order to hide incomes that he could not justify legally while he had held public posts in 2014-2019. He denies any wrongdoing.
