A former policeman from Drochia was sentenced to one year in prison after he was found guilty of taking bribe to influence court sentences, IPN reports.

According to prosecutors, the former employee of the Drochia Police Inspectorate asked for, accepted and received 35,000 lei in one case and €2,000 in another case, from different people, claiming that he can influence judges and criminal prosecution bodies to pronounce a favorable sentence.

The people from whom he asked for money were tried in cases of drunk driving, and the former policeman assured them that they would not lose their right to drive.

The criminal cases were started in February 2022 and July 2023 and the sentence was pronounced in January 2025. The former policeman was banned from serving in the Ministry of Internal Affairs for a period of 3 years, and the amounts of money he requested were confiscated.
