The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration aims to rethink the economic diplomacy strategy in the context of the pending signing of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement, which is part of the Association Agreement with the EU, IPN reports.
In a Diplomatic Economic Club meeting staged within the Moldova Business Week 2014, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Tudor Ulianovschi said they will improve first of all the Ministry’s team of experts who coordinate the economic diplomacy. A special department might be created. There will be intensified the process of training the personnel working on the economic segment both at the Ministry and at Moldova’s embassies abroad.
“We are waiting for an expert from the UK, who will provide consultancy to colleagues in our embassies how to correctly organize the process of attracting foreign investors,” said the deputy minister.
There will be also signed bilateral cooperation agreements with foreign ministries of other countries, including EU member states, which will enable to learn from their expedience in attracting investors for implementing infrastructure projects and other projects of common interest. “We recently signed such an accord with the Foreign Ministry of Poland,” said Tudor Ulianovschi.
Asked what suggestions the Ministry of Economy made for strengthening the role of the Moldovan diplomatic service on the economic segment, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Valeriu Lazar said it is easy to formulate suggestions, but it is not at all easy to implement them. “We must focus on concrete projects. Better cooperation at internal level is needed in this respect. The efficiency will be greater if there is greater precision,” he stated.
Moldova is to sign the Association Agreement with the EU on June 27.
