Foreign ministers of Romania and Moldova confer on border incident

Moldova’s Foreign Minister Iurie Leanca and his Romanian counterpart Teodor Baconschi exchanged opinions on the border incident as a result of which a Moldovan citizen was wounded. In the evening of January 15, the two officials had a telephone conversation at the suggestion of the Romanian side, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration. The two diplomats discussed the incident that happened at the Giurgiulesti-Galati border crossing point, where a Moldova was seriously wounded. They expressed their regret at the incident, conferring on the investigations conducted by the relevant bodies of the two states. It was stressed the importance of holding a through investigation and of close cooperation between the authorities of Moldova and Romania in establishing all the circumstances of this case. The two ministers agreed to keep in touch during the investigation. A Moldovan citizen was wounded at the Moldovan-Romanian border as a result of an attempt to smuggle cigarettes and of altercations with the customs and border authorities of Romania on January 15 in the evening. The information was confirmed for the press by representatives of the Ministry of the Interior of Moldova.
