The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Moldova follows with concern the events on the Azeri-Armenian border where armed clashes that resulted in deaths occurred during the last few days, IPN reports.

“The Ministry offers its condolences to the families of those who died and calls on the sides to refrain from the use of force, to continue to make increased effort to avoid the escalation of the situation and identify a sustainable political solution based on the respect of the principles and norms of the international law,” the institution said in a press release.

It also said that the Republic of Moldova is for the peaceful resolution of the conflict situation based on the respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan within its internationally recognized borders.

Azerbaijan and Armenia accused each other of triggering a military attack on the border between them on July 12.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan said that on July 12, the armed forces of Armenia attempted to attack, using artillery, in order to seize positions in the direction of Tovuz district along the state border between Azerbaijan and Armenia. The attack of the enemy forces was prevented by retaliatory measures. As a result of the combat, three servicemen of the Azerbaijani army were killed and four were injured.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia also reacted, saying the Azerbaijani side continues the aggressive actions on the Armenian-Azeri border, intentionally opening fire on civil infrastructure and peaceful people, extending the geography of tensions. These aggressive actions against the security of the civilian population of the Republic of Armenia will get an appropriate response for which the Azerbaijani side bears overall responsibility.
