Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, firmly condemns the missile strike close to the Pivdennoukrainsk nuclear plant in Ukraine’s southern Mykolaiv region, which is situated only 200 km from the border with the Republic of Moldova, IPN reports.
“The continuous strikes on nuclear installations by the Russian military forces endanger everyone in our region,” noted Nicu Popescu.
The international press reported that Russian troops struck the Pivdennoukrainsk nuclear power plant early on Monday. Ukraine’s state nuclear company Energoatom said a blast took place 300 meters away from the reactors and damaged power plant buildings shortly after midnight. Its reactors have not been damaged and are working normally, according to Reuters. The nuclear plant is Ukraine’s second-largest after the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, which is Europe’s largest nuclear power station.
