For providing €100 million in macro-financial assistance to Moldova, the European Union put again geopolitics on the first place. At the same time, this assistance is an instrument for exerting influence on the power in Chisinau, said experts invited to the talk show “Key issue” on NTV Moldova channel, IPN reports.

Politologist Ernest Vardanean said that in the EU’s promise to offer Moldova €100 million geopolitics was placed again at the forefront as parliamentary elections will take place in 2018 and the European Commission decided to work with the Republic of Moldova ad-hoc so as not to offer trump cards to the anti-European forces. “I cannot understand what happened in the Republic of Moldova during four years that the mixed electoral system as the main factor that bothered the Europeans suddenly moved to the second place and particular results in the fight against corruption were put on the first place,” stated the politologist.

Journalist Valerii Demidetski said the €100 million represents leverage exerted on the Moldovan power. If the government continues not to do anything to develop the state and to go and beg money from the foreign partners, this will do no good.

Executive director of the Institute for Strategic Initiatives Vlad Kulminski said that a mission of the EU will come to Moldova next February to assess the progress made in during reforms by the Government of Moldova and a decision whether to provide the money or not will be taken based on the results of the appraisal. “I think the EU’s perception of what is going on in Moldova changed. Earlier, money was indeed provided and Moldova was a success story,” stated Vlad Kulminski.
