The first batch of food parcels provided free to Moldova by the Government of Romania arrived in Chisinau on April 14. The parcels are to be distributed to children with disabilities and persons with severe disabilities from childhood tomorrow already, IPN reports, quoting the Government’s press service.

Besides the 12 500 parcels that were received today, 7 500 parcels will be transported to Moldova next week. These include flour, maize, canned meat and vegetables. The products are made in Romania and will be accompanied by quality and safety certificates. The total value of the 20,000 parcels is €400 000.

Within the handover event, Deputy Prime Minister Gheorghe Brega thanked the Government of Romania for the provided support. “This assistance is welcome and appreciated before the Easter holidays. We will immediately distribute the parcels to beneficiaries in Briceni, Ocnita and Glodeni districts. These districts haven’t yet received sugar and this will be distributed simultaneously with the food parcels so as to avoid doubling the transportation costs. The parcels to the other districts will be distributed from next Monday,” he stated.

For his part, Romania’s Ambassador in Chisinau Marius Lazurca said the offered assistance is a gesture of solidarity on the part of Romania. “We send these parcels during the Easter period to the most deprived families of Moldova and want these to reach the beneficiaries that we identified together with the Moldovan authorities before Easter,” he stated.

The Government of Romania also offered over 1 tonne of sugar to Moldova’s social facilities. This May Moldova will also receive 16 000 tonnes of crude oil for preventing situations of risk in the energy sector.
