The first Christmas trees are already on sale at the markets in Chisinau. These are fir trees in pots. Traders said the fir trees without roots will go on sale in several days. The prices of the Christmas trees depend on the height and quality of the trees and the buyers can choose between natural and artificial trees, IPN reports.
The trees in pots are sold in few places at the market and cost more than the cut trees. A fir tree in pot that is about 1.2 meters in height can be bought for about 600 lei, while the price of a cut tree, of the same height, is about 200 lei. Blue fir trees can be also bought in pots, for 800 lei per meter.
The artificial trees are mainly imported from China and Poland. In a shop at the Central Market of Chisinau, an artificial fir tree of 1.20 meters made in Poland costs 1,375 lei, while a fir tree of 2 meters made in China costs 1,350 lei. The prices vary depending on quality. For example, the fir or pine trees made in Poland are more expensive because their needles are from silicon and are thicker.
The artificial free trees of about 60 cm cost 65 lei, while those of 2.50 meters – 1,700 lei. “The prices of artificial trees rose by 10% following the appreciation of the euro. We import all the merchandise in euro,” said an employee of the shop.
According to the Forestry Agency “Moldsilva”, the nurseries offered 33,000 Christmas trees for sale.
