Moldova’s Border Police robbed Moldovans deported from Germany, accused Fiodor Ghelici. In a news conference hosted by IPN, he said that an irreversible process of corruption and degradation among the border guards started in Moldova.
Fiodor Ghelici is the ambassador and resident representative of the International Organization for Economic Development (IOED) in the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine, head of the Regional Office in Moldova for Belarus, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Moldova, Romania, Turkey, and Ukraine. He is also the official representative of the IOED at the UN in Geneva, the representative of the International Congress for the Protection of the Rights and Freedoms of Citizens SHIELD and the representative of the International Union of Diplomats in the Republic of Moldova.
Ghelici said that he was visited by a woman, the mother of four children, who was deported from Germany. She told him that together with her children, she was embarked on a plane where there were other deported Moldovans. When they got to the airport in Chisinau, the documents and the money offered by the German authorities to the deportees were transmitted to the Moldovan border police. As a result of checks, the border guards returned the passports to them, not yet the money.
The woman said that she doesn’t know exactly how much money the German authorities paid to the deportees, but the border guards gave back the papers to her daughter and also an open envelope with 70 Moldovan lei inside. The woman asked Fiodor Ghelici to help her recover the money. For his part, Fiodor Ghelici said that he sought help from a number of authorities, but all in vain.
He noted that he doesn’t know another more incompetent institution than the Border Police. It seems that the most unsuitable candidates from professional viewpoint are named to posts there.
Fiodor Ghelici called on President Maia Sandu to devote attention to the problem of corruption in state institutions as corruption engulfed Moldova. The people leave the country namely because of corruption.
Another message was addressed to the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen. Fiodor Ghelici said that he will prepare an alternative, detailed and objective report about the Republic of Moldova’s readiness to join the EU. He recommended the European official to meet with ordinary people and ask them if they want the country to join the EU or not.
