Fines for undisciplined drivers and pedestrians in Transnistrian region to be increased

The fines for drivers and pedestrians who violate the traffic rules in the in Transnistrian region will be higher from October 23. They will be practically twice higher and arrest will be applied for particular offenses, IPN reports.

The Transnistrian administration said the persons caught driving again without having a driver’s license will be fined 1,840 Transnistrian rubles or will be detained for a period of 30 days. The fine today is 920 rubles and arrest is not applied.

The persons caught driving after being deprived of the right to drive will be detained for 15 days. If the violation is committed again, the detention period will be twice longer.

The drivers caught drifting through traffic repeatedly will be stripped of the driver’s license for a period of six months to a year or will be even detained for 15 days. The current penalty is now a fine of 1,840 Transnistrian rubles.

Repeated speeding will also be punished harsher. Exceeding the speed limit by 40 to 60 km/hour will be punished with a fine of 1,840 Transnistrian rubles, as opposed to 1,288 rubles at present.

Pedestrians who jaywalk will be fined 184 Transnistrian rubles if the person caused obstacles in traffic and 368 Transnistrian rubles if they caused a road accident by jaywalking. At present, these fines are two times smaller.

The so-called central bank of the Transnistrian region posted an exchange rate of 0.85 Transnistrian rubles for a Moldova leu, which means a fine of 1,840 rubles will be equal to 2,164 lei.
