Minor traffic violations will no longer be punishable by fines. Officers will be able to issue a warning, provided the driver has not been penalized in the past year for similar offenses. Another condition for a warning is that all previous fines must be paid. The provisions are contained in a draft law passed by parliament in its final reading, IPN reports.
Among the violations that will only be punishable with a warning are operating vehicles with technical defects in the braking system or steering mechanism, lighting or signaling devices, as well as driving a vehicle with an indecipherable registration number or an incorrectly placed license plate. Failure to comply with the requirements to use lighting devices at night or in poor visibility conditions and failure to connect dipped or daytime running lamps in headlights will not be fined.
The legislative amendments have been proposed by the Ministry of the Interior and will enter into force upon publication in the State Gazette.
