In the Republic of Moldova, agricultural chambers will be established as autonomous, apolitical, and nonprofit professional organizations. These will have the status of a public legal entity, created to represent and protect the interests of farmers in dialogue with public authorities during the decision-making process regarding agricultural development policies. The provisions are included in a draft law approved by Parliament in its final reading, IPN reports.

According to the document, the agricultural chambers will provide farmers with access to necessary resources and information, including training and funding programs, and will facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experiences among members.

The agricultural chambers will be established at two levels: ten regional agricultural chambers and the National Agricultural Chamber. Agricultural producers who own, possess, or use at least two hectares of arable land, among other criteria, will be eligible for membership.

The activities of the agricultural chambers will be financed through membership fees, paid consultancy or assistance services, subsidies from the National Fund for Agricultural and Rural Development, donations or sponsorships, and other legal sources.

The organizational model of agricultural chambers in the Republic of Moldova will be hybrid. On the one hand, the state, through the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, will facilitate the creation and institutionalization of regional agricultural chambers, while on the other hand, the agricultural chambers will have full autonomy in their activities.

The draft law regarding the organization and functioning of agricultural chambers will come into force on January 1, 2026.
