The arrest of the Liberal-Democratic MP Vlad Filat could represent the start of a fight against high-level corruption. The issue was developed in the talk show “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel, IPN reports.

Alexandru Cauia, dean of the Faculty of Law of the Moldova Free International University, considers it is important that an MP of the ruling alliance was arrested. “Not an MP of the opposition was arrested and there are no reasons to speculate about political settling of accounts. This is a prominent personality, a former premier and the leader of a ruling part. This event could be a first step that will bring us spring,” he stated.

International law expert Vitalie Gamurari considers the arrest of Filat is not something unordinary. “The fact that Filat was arrested is not something extraordinary. It is about a common law offense, not about political retaliation. Let’s be calm and allow justice to do its duty. I think they worked a lot on this case and collected enough evidence,” he stated.

Politologist Nicolae Tsvetkov considers that an older wish of the people was satisfied by Filat’s arrest. “The people have waited to see a high-ranking official in jail for a long time. Filat is one of the leaders of the European course. The removal of this piece could lead to the collapse of the whole system,” he stated.

Media analyst Cristian Tabara said the arrest of Filat represents the start of the implementation of the law in Moldova.
