Experts say that fighting corruption in Moldova is just a declared priority, although President Vladimir Voronin took attitude repeatedly.
The political analyst Igor Botan states that in the second trimester of 2006 the number of investigated corruption cases increased, but these cases refer to persons of the lowest level in public administration, employees of the medicine or education fields. There are cases when political opponents are accused of corruption, but these accusations are not sufficiently grounded. At the same time, important cases are concealed or investigated for a very long period.
In the same context, the political analyst says that the methods of controlling and declaring incomes of the public area employees are deficient. The anticorruption prosecution office instituted proceedings on the case of an officer working at the police station of Hincesti district. This is the first time when the article 3310/1 of the Penal Code is applied, though Igor Botan says that the position and the offence are insignificant, so that this case will not have the necessary prophylactic effect.
